I read this article today that is all about how “blah” this year’s American Idol contestants are. It compares this year’s crop to last year’s, implying that no one this year has that “it” factor.

Personally, I think it’s awfully early to make this decision. Sure, last year had Taylor Hicks and Chris Daughtry, but it also had Kevin Covais and Kinnik Sky. They weren’t horrible, but they clearly weren’t awe-inspiring, either. This year has Antonella Barba. Last year had Ayla Brown.

I think there are several singers this year who may just blow us away before it’s all said and done. Melinda Doolittle has already shown us that she has the potential for greatness. Has she peaked too early? Will she fall prey to LaToyan London’s problem with seemin inaccessible? What about Sundance Head? Terrible one week, bordering on fantastic the next– but certainly not boring.
