So, we have the final twelve. I thought the only real surprise was that Gedeon McKinney went home. I thought his performances were really good, better than some that are still there, but isn’t that the norm for American Idol? I guess he wasn’t a big enough “personality”.
The same can be said for Ayla Brown. I thought she was as good a performer as Melissa McGhee, but she just always seemed kind of emotionally distant. I think that if she had conveyed the emotional content that was present in her singing last night earlier, she might still be in the competition.
We also said goodbye to Kinnik Sky. You just can’t be “okay” in most of your performances and then have a night that bad and not expect to go home. She didn’t seem in the least bit shocked. I hope that she continues to do well, as I really did like her.
And we had to say goodbye to our hometown boy— Will Makar. I liked Will, but I didn’t necessarily think that his performances merited the final 12.
So, who will go next? I was commenting last night that Kevin Covais should go next, but my husband said he will probably be one of those who hangs around forever, long after they should have been sent home. I think Kevin has been okay. I didn’t begrudge him being in the final 24, but there is no reason that he should be in the Final 12 over Gedeon.
