Bucky Covington’s new video “A Different World” was number 1 on CMT Pure’s countdown. You can view it below. I have to say that I always liked Bucky but found him very difficult to understand when he sang. They’ve done a fantastic job with how he sounds on this album, if this song is any indication.
If you’ve been wondering how Melissa McGhee is doing post-Idol, you should check out the BuddyTV interview. Highlights? She toured with Ruben Studdard after the show ended last year, and she’s recording an album next month.
Gina Glocksen is a contestant from Season 6, who had auditioned twice before— even making it to Hollywood last year. She’s also a member of the band CatFight. If you visit their site (click on the word CatFight in the last sentence), you can hear some of their music. The songs on their site are cover music. There’s a wide variety, from These Boots Are Made For Walking to I Want Candy.
I’ve included Gina’s audition from last year to jog your memory.
And this year’s audition (I think it’s pretty clear she was trying to come off as more “pop” last year, whereas this year she’s being more true to her rock persona).
Mostly, it seems Chris Daughtry wishes his fans would get over the fact that he lost American Idol and help him celebrate the success of his band. His band’s first album is currently sitting in the number one slot. Not bad for a “loser”.
Here Nicholas Pedro explain in his own words why he left American Idol last year. Also, see his audition.
Chris Daughtry sang the National Anthem at the NFC championship playoff game between the Chicago Bears and the New Orleans Saints yeterday.
Here is a video replay of his performance:
This is a VERY rough, brief video of Taylor Hicks’ performance with Gladys Knight at the Orange Bowl halftime show. This one was recorded by someone at at the game.
Here is a better, more lengthy You Tube video of Taylor Hicks performing The Runaround and playing harmonica and singing with Gladys Knight. This one seems to have been recorded off the television performance.
In case you missed Chris Daughtry’s new band Daughtry performing New Year’s Eve (or just want to watch it again), here’s the You Tube video of it.
Elliott Yamin was recently in People magazine— not because of his music, but because of his smile. Yamin had serious work done to his teeth to provide him more Idol-like pearly whites. We just hope it doesn’t negatively effect the way he sings.
American Idol Taylor Hicks will be joining Gladys Knight on stage at the Orange Bowl halftime show. He will be performing The Runaround and a duet with Knight. American Idol winner Kelly Clarkson also appeared at the Orange Bowl in 2005.
Well, Taylor’s new cd is out, and the reviews are in. I was going to link to one, but there are just too many out there, and each one has something different to say. They’re a mixed bag. Some like it, some love it, some hate parts of it. Generally, I would call the reviews middle of the road. I think this is not unexpected, as it seems that none of the first albums from American Idol winners are any good (or at least vaguely disappointing). It seems that they only come into their own when they’re out from under American Idol contract obligations.
So, what about you? Has anyone bought the album? What do you think of it?
I’ve included below a live performance of “The Right Place”. I also included Taylor’s performance of “Runaround” from his Christmas at Rockefeller Plaza appearance.
Katharine McPhee beat out Katherine Heigl and Vanessa Minnillo to win VH-1’s Big “It” Girl of the Year. Katharine Heigl is the blonde on Gray’s Anatomy. Vaness Minnillo appears on Total Request Live.
The Walt Disney Christmas Day Parade, airing December 25 from 9-11 on ABC, will feature Mandisa, Ace Young and Paris Bennett. Elliott Yamin was originally scheduled to appear, as well, but had to back out due to other commitments.
Katharine McPhee will appear on CBS’ “Home for the Holidays,” scheduled for December 22 at 7 p.m. This special mixes strong music with moving, true-life stories about adoption.
Taylor Hicks is scheduled to join Phil and Robin McGraw for TNT’s “Christmas in Washington.” The holiday special will broadcast December 13 at 9 pm. on TNT.
And not to be left out, past winner Ruben Studdard will appear on “Dear Santa”, a special hosted by Kristen Bell. The show features wishes being granted to kids who wrote to Santa. It will air 6 a.m. Saturday, December 16, on ABC Family.
